Acute kidney disease is when your kidneys acutely decrease their function as a result of many potential etiologies/conditions. The hope is that a reversible etiology can be quickly diagnosed and hopefully reversed. Chronic kidney disease includes conditions that irreversibly damage your kidneys and decrease their ability to keep you healthy. Early detection and treatment can often keep chronic kidney disease from getting worse.
